#24154: Do you have the right context?

Sometimes, people get on clarity calls for me to help connect the dots.

I have a knack for identifying and connecting patterns as my mind has a way of doing some magic (even though sometimes, I am like, do this magic for me too now 😂😭. Cos, Omo!)

But that’s not where I am going today.

I had one of those clarity calls yesterday. After he introduced me to what he wanted to do, I responded based on an “assumption” I had in my head about how people in the niche typically operate. Only to realize after a few minutes that Egungun had entered express—that I was turning on its own in the wrong direction.

While my info was possibly correct, the lack of appropriate context made all the “good information” useless to the person who needed it.

Although the conversation ended with me sharing some good thoughts about where he should go, after we took the time to align on context and objectives, I also took some time to laugh at myself. 😂

Anyway, what I am just trying to let you know today is that good intentions in the wrong context can lead to well-thought-out plans that are useless. You will be working hard, but based on the fact that you are working on the wrong premise, your answers, even though possibly right efforts, will be leading to nothing.

I still remember SS2 Mathematics and checking the back of New General Mathematics for answers when we had assignments, so sometimes, while we ended up with what we thought were the right answers, our flawed process meant that we got it wrong. Did this ever happen to you, Reader?

Sometimes, it is okay to pause. This new issue is not that former one you experienced; the context may have changed. Don’t rush into new issues with dated knowledge of context.

My waking thought this morning is that it is easy to be drawn into ruminating on the things you don't have, or feel like you are missing out on, than the things you have — and the possibilities that can come from your own journey. You can get so caught up comparing and wanting, that you are not living the life that can possibly create the very things you are wanting. It takes intentionality to build. And you will not build your own if you spend time worrying about why your own is not like...

I am still young in this business thing, but one thing is already clear: you don't treat everybody the same way. Not in business. Not in comms. Not in branding or marketing. If you don't understand your audience, you will create problems you won't immediately see. You can't send the same push notification to everybody. At a certain level, even sending the same email to everyone becomes lazy. People need to be grouped into behavioural pockets — based on how they think, what they value, and how...

I saw House of Dynamite on Netflix yesterday, and instead of just enjoying the movie, I was seeing the weight of responsibility, and sometimes what it means to be a leader. Although you people would have told me that the movie did not show whether the missile hit or not, now, I have to finish the story without a closure. 😫 I will firmly posit that leadership at any level means taking responsibility for the lives of other people; it’s just that the weight and consequences differ from level to...
